Claypits Coppice

Just outside Warwick, Claypits Coppice is a proper woodland walk - the kind of place you head to when you want a break from the tourist hubbub but don't want to drive halfway across the county. It's a working coppice woodland, which means you'll see evidence of traditional forestry alongside the usual mix of native trees and undergrowth that makes these places feel genuinely wild.

The appeal is straightforward: shade, fresh air, and a bit of gentle history underfoot. The paths are manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it slow going if the ground's wet. You're looking at anything from 30 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how much you want to wander. There are proper trails rather than a single loop, so you can tailor the length to your mood.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly as a half-day stop if you're camped at Mousley House Farm just down the road, or as a quick morning walk before heading into Warwick town itself. Don't expect dramatic views or manicured attractions - this is woodland, not a country estate. If you're after bird watching or just needing peace and quiet before the kids get back in the car, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Free to access and open year-round, though winter mud can be a proper nuisance. Spring brings decent bluebells if you time it right.
