This is a country estate run by the National Trust, about three miles from Worksop, and it's the kind of place where you can easily lose an afternoon without trying. The house itself burned down in 1879, but that's almost beside the point. What matters is the 3,800 acres of parkland, the ornamental lake, and the chapel that stands as a reminder of grander times. Most visitors come for the walking. The grounds are well laid out with paths at various lengths - you're looking at anything from a leisurely hour around the lake to a proper countryside ramble. Families with younger children tend to get the most from it because there's space to move without feeling crowded, and the lake walk is genuinely scenic without being taxing. If you're into trees and open landscapes rather than formal gardens, you'll rate it highly. The estate's main appeal is breathing room and a sense of how these places functioned as working estates. It's free to enter if you're already staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - there's a National Trust site right on the doorstep at Clumber Park Caravan and Motorhome Club, and several others within a couple of miles. If you're basing yourself in the area for a holiday park stay, Clumber fills a day well enough. Quiet rather than thrilling, but that's exactly the point.
