Coed Helen Hill

Standing barely 400 feet above the Menai Strait, Coed Helen Hill might not command the respect of Snowdon, but it delivers one of the finest views in North Wales for remarkably little effort. The short woodland walk from the base takes about 20 minutes, winding through mixed forest before opening onto a grassy summit that looks directly across to Caernarfon Castle and beyond to the Snowdonia peaks.

Families with younger children will find this a proper confidence-builder - steep enough to feel like a proper mountain adventure without the tears and tantrums that come with longer hikes. The path is well-defined, though it can get muddy after rain, so decent walking boots are wise.

What makes this hill special is the panoramic sweep from the summit. On a clear day, you'll spot Anglesey's coastline stretching west, while the mainland mountains rise dramatically to the southeast.
