Coed Llwyn-gwyn

The forest floor at Coed Llwyn-gwyn is thick with moss and bracken, the kind of place where you lose track of time within minutes of arriving. It's a proper woodland walk in Powys - mixed conifer and broadleaf trees, quiet paths that wind through decent-sized stands of fir and oak. Nothing fancy, no visitor centre or café, just forest doing what forest does.

This works brilliantly if you've got restless legs and want to burn an hour or two without faffing about. Dog walkers absolutely love it here - room to roam, no crowds to speak of, proper terrain underfoot. The paths are manageable year-round, though winter mud can be a bit sticky. Family groups with older kids find it decent enough, though there's not much in the way of dramatic vistas or unusual features to hold younger attention for long.

Being near Bwlch-y-ffridd, it slots nicely into a broader Mid Wales trip combining walks with the nearby holiday parks - Maesmawr Farm Resort is only a couple of miles off, making this an easy morning venture before heading back for lunch. The forest isn't a destination in itself, mind you. It's the sort of place that makes sense if you're already in the area, not something you'd drive across the county for.

No admission charge as far as anyone can tell, free parking if there's a car park at the entrance. Allow ninety minutes minimum if you want a proper wander without rushing.
