Cokers Frome Farm

The real draw at Cokers Frome Farm is the wetland habitat itself. It's a proper working nature reserve where you'll spot reed warblers, water voles if you're lucky, and in winter the place becomes a magnet for migrating birds. The reserve sits just inland from Weymouth, so it's convenient without feeling like you're stuck in a tourist trap.

You're looking at a peaceful walk through reedbeds and open water rather than anything with facilities or interpretation boards. That's either brilliant or dull depending on your mood. If you've got binoculars and patience, you'll get plenty from an hour here. Kids under ten might find it a bit slow unless they're already keen birders.

Timing matters. Spring and autumn migrations transform the place. Summer is quieter. Winter can be muddy and exposed, but the wildfowl numbers spike. There's no charge that I can find, and no set hours - it's a working farm first, nature reserve second.

It fits well into a Dorset park holiday. Parkdean Resorts Warmwell is less than five miles away, as is Green Valley Yurts if you fancy something more laid-back. You could roll it into a morning before heading to Weymouth's beaches, or make it a stop on a circular walk through the valley. Don't expect crowds or infrastructure - bring your own snacks and decent footwear.
