About Colmer's Hill

Standing proud above the Marshwood Vale, this distinctive conical hill rises 157 metres and has become one of Dorset's most recognisable landmarks. The climb takes about 20 minutes from Symondsbury village, following a well-marked footpath that winds steadily upward through ancient woodland and open grassland.

Once you reach the summit, the panoramic views are absolutely worth the effort. The Jurassic Coast stretches out to the south, with Golden Cap and the distinctive pyramid of Pilsdon Pen visible on clear days. To the north, the patchwork fields of West Dorset roll away towards Somerset.

Walkers and photographers will get the most from a visit here - the hill features heavily in tourism brochures for good reason. Families with older children who don't mind a proper walk will find it manageable, though the steep sections might challenge little legs.

There's free parking in Symondsbury village, just outside Bridport, though spaces fill up quickly on sunny weekends. Allow two hours for the round trip if you want time to properly appreciate the views at the top.

For those staying at nearby holiday parks like Golden Cap or West Bay, Colmer's Hill makes an excellent morning excursion. The combination of exercise, fresh air, and spectacular scenery provides a perfect contrast to beach days along this stunning stretch of the Dorset coast.
