Coneyford Plantation

A short walk east of Wells-next-the-Sea takes you to Coneyford Plantation, a modest woodland that feels properly Norfolk - flat, quiet, and easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The trees are dense enough to offer shelter from the coastal wind, and there's a real sense of peace once you're a few minutes in.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow morning rather than a quick tick-off. Walkers will find it straightforward - the paths are clear, though be prepared for muddy stretches in winter. Birdwatchers do well here, especially in spring and early autumn. If you've got kids, they'll burn off energy crashing through the undergrowth, though there's not much in the way of formal play infrastructure.

You can easily loop a 45-minute walk here without rushing. No facilities that I could spot, so bring water. The admission situation is unclear, but locals seem to move freely through, so it appears accessible.

The real value is as a breathing space during a wider Norfolk coast holiday. Wells-next-the-Sea itself is the draw - the quay, the beach huts, proper fish and chips. Stay at Pinewoods Holiday Park (just 3.5 miles away) and you've got somewhere comfortable to base yourself. Coneyford fits naturally into a morning walk before heading down to the seafront. It's not a destination in itself, but it fills a gap between bigger attractions nicely.
