Cophurst Wood

Cophurst Wood sits just outside Lancaster and is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for - ancient woodland that feels properly removed from the town buzz despite being barely on its doorstep. You're walking through mixed deciduous forest here, the kind with a real sense of history underfoot. Oak and beech dominate, and depending on season you'll find bluebells in spring or a decent carpet of leaves come autumn.

It's a walker's wood rather than a destination in itself. The paths are decent enough but not manicured, which is rather the point. You'll need proper boots after rain - it gets boggy in patches.
