Cors Bodeilio National Nature Reserve

Windswept boardwalks lead you across one of Anglesey's finest surviving fenlands, where reed beds stretch as far as the eye can see. Cors Bodeilio is proper wild Wales - a National Nature Reserve that feels utterly untouched despite being just outside Pentraeth. The raised wooden walkways keep your feet dry while giving you ringside seats to watch bitterns skulking through the reeds and marsh harriers wheeling overhead.

Birdwatchers will have a field day here, especially in winter when the reserve fills with wildfowl. But even if you can't tell a teal from a gadwall, there's something deeply satisfying about walking these ancient wetlands. Allow at least an hour to do the boardwalk justice, though keen naturalists could easily spend a morning here. Dawn and dusk visits reward you with the best wildlife action, when the reserve comes properly alive.
