Corse Wood Hill

Standing at 212 metres above the Severn Vale, this wooded hilltop offers sweeping views across the Gloucestershire countryside without the crowds you'd find at more famous peaks. The climb through mixed woodland is gentle enough for most fitness levels, though proper walking boots are worth bringing as the paths can get muddy after rain.

From the summit, you'll see the Forest of Dean stretching west and the Cotswolds rolling away to the east. On clear days, the Welsh hills make an appearance on the horizon. The view takes in Gloucester's cathedral spire and the silvery curve of the Severn - it's particularly lovely in late afternoon when the light catches the water.

Families with older children will enjoy the walk, though toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections near the top. Allow an hour and a half for the round trip from the nearest parking spot. Dog walkers are well catered for here, with plenty of space for four-legged friends to explore safely away from roads.
