Court Hill

Court Hill isn't going to stop you in your tracks, but it's a decent excuse for a walk if you're camping in the Lee Valley area. It's a modest rise just east of Chingford - nothing dramatic, but you do get a proper view across the Lea Valley once you're up there, which beats staring at the campsite all afternoon.

The walk itself is straightforward enough. You're looking at mixed woodland and open ground, the sort of terrain that doesn't punish you for being out of shape. On a clear day the visibility is reasonable, though don't expect anything that'll make you gasp. It works well for families with kids who want a gentle leg-stretch rather than a proper slog, and it's the sort of spot where walkers passing through the Lee Valley might add it on to their day without planning a dedicated trip.

Practically speaking, there's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of - it's just a natural high point you can access freely from the surrounding footpaths. Give yourself an hour up and back, more if you want to dawdle around the top. The woodland can get muddy after rain, so decent boots aren't a luxury.

If you're based at Lee Valley Campsite or Fowley Mead Park just down the road, it's worth doing. It breaks up the routine and gives you a bit of elevation and fresh air without requiring much planning. Don't make a special trip, but while you're in the area - yes, get up there.
