Craig Celynin

Standing at 244 metres above sea level, this modest hill offers surprisingly rewarding views across the Conwy Valley and towards Snowdonia's peaks. The walk up from Conwy town takes about 45 minutes through mixed woodland and open moorland - nothing too taxing, though you'll need proper walking boots as the path gets muddy after rain.

Families with older children (say 8+) will manage the climb fine, but it's probably too much for little ones unless you fancy carrying them halfway. The summit itself isn't dramatic - more of a grassy mound really - but the panorama makes the effort worthwhile. On clear days you can spot Conwy Castle below and the Menai Strait stretching towards Anglesey.

What makes Craig Celynin particularly useful is its proximity to several holiday parks around Conwy. If you're staying at places like Tyddyn Du Touring Park or Lyons Pendyffryn Hall Holiday Park, both within three miles, it's a proper local walk that gets you away from the crowds. Allow two to three hours for the round trip including a pause at the top.

Best tackled in the morning when the light's better for photos. It won't feature in any 'best peaks in Wales' lists, but as a leg-stretcher from your caravan base near Conwy, it does the job nicely.
