Craig Morile

A steep pull up from the Strathdearn valley, Craig Morile rewards the effort with proper Highland views that stretch across Inverness-shire. You're looking at a short but muscular walk - nothing technical, just relentless gradient through moorland and rough ground. The summit itself is modest, a rocky outcrop really, but the vantage point over the strath below and towards the Monadhliath Mountains makes the sweat worthwhile.

This one appeals to hill walkers wanting something achievable without a full day's commitment. It's steep enough to feel like you've earned it, but not so remote that you'll spend hours getting there from Inverness. The terrain is rough underfoot in places - bring decent boots, not trainers. Most people manage it in two to three hours return, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top.

Walkers tackling the Strathdearn hills will naturally loop this in with other peaks in the area. Stay at Tomatin Glamping Pods nearby and you're positioned well for exploring the quieter corners of the Highlands around Inverness. It's not the flashiest view in Scotland, but that's rather the point - you won't be fighting crowds, and the walk feels properly wild without being mountaineering. Go when the weather's settled; mist here is genuinely frustrating.
