Creemors Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured tourist spot, Creemors Wood sits just outside Crediton in mid-Devon and delivers exactly what you'd want from a forest - shade, birdsong, and enough space to actually breathe. The paths wind through established broadleaf woodland with the sort of quietness you don't often find without driving miles into the wilds. You're looking at ancient oaks and a decent canopy coverage that keeps things cool even in summer.

This works brilliantly if you're staying at somewhere like Yeatheridge Farm Caravan Park nearby and need to stretch legs without heading far afield. Families with younger kids will manage it fine on a gentle stroll, though it's not particularly dramatic - no waterfalls, no clifftop views, no Instagram moments. That's actually the appeal. Walkers after peaceful woodland will rate it; history buffs less so.

Allow an hour or ninety minutes depending on how much wandering you do. The ground can get boggy after rain, so decent boots are sensible rather than trainers. Spring's lovely when the bluebells are out, but honestly any season works if you just want to disappear into trees for a bit without faffing about. No facilities that I'm aware of, so take what you need with you. It's the sort of place that doesn't shout about itself, which means fewer crowds and all the better for it.
