Right in the heart of Crewkerne, this Victorian-era library is the sort of place that rewards a quiet hour if you're passing through town. It's a proper working library - computers, books, a reading room - but what makes it worth a look is the building itself. Solid red brick, proper period features, the kind of local institution that's been ticking along for generations.

You'll get the most out of it if you're the type who actually uses libraries rather than just snaps photos outside. The staff are genuinely helpful, and if you're staying at one of the glamping spots nearby - Esme's Escape or Wytch Wood Camping are both within walking distance - it's a handy spot to grab a book or check emails on a rainy afternoon. Kids will find it perfectly fine for half an hour, though don't expect anything flashy. This is traditional library work.

Admission appears to be free, which is just how it should be. Opening hours are Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons (closed Thursdays, mind you), plus Saturday mornings if you're planning a weekend trip. You won't need more than 45 minutes here unless you're genuinely after a particular book or want to settle in with the local history section - which, fair play, is actually quite decent for a small-town library.

If you're basing yourself at any of the rural camping parks in the area, Crewkerne itself makes a proper little market town stop. The library's worth five minutes if you're in town anyway, but it's not a reason to detour specially.
