Walking through Crockencally Plantation feels like stepping into proper forest - tall conifers towering overhead, the ground soft underfoot, light filtering through in that particular way that makes you want to stay quiet. It's a working woodland near Dumfries, the sort of place where you genuinely lose the sound of traffic within minutes.

What you get here is straightforward: forest paths winding through dense plantations of spruce and pine.
