Crow Hill Standing Stones

You'll find yourself on open moorland above Hebden Bridge, surrounded by nothing but bracken and sky, facing three weathered standing stones that have been here for around 4,000 years. That's the whole attraction, really - three upright slabs of gritstone, worn smooth by wind and rain, possibly once part of a Bronze Age ritual site or burial monument. No one's entirely sure what they're for, which is oddly compelling.

It's a proper walker's spot rather than a casual drive-by. The stones sit at roughly 300 metres elevation on Crow Hill, so you're looking at a decent hike from Hebden Bridge town centre - probably 45 minutes to an hour depending on your route and fitness. The moorland approach is the thing here: empty, windswept, with views across the Pennines that justify the effort. On a clear day it's genuinely striking.

Families with young kids might find the walk itself more interesting than the destination - it's boggy in places and can be muddy after rain. History types and walkers will get far more from it. It's free, obviously, and there's no formal visiting infrastructure, so go prepared with a map or phone GPS.

If you're camping at Hebden Bridge Caravan and Motorhome Club or Old Chamber, both within walking distance of the town, Crow Hill works as a proper moorland excursion rather than a quick pit stop. Pair it with a pub lunch back in Hebden Bridge itself - the town's got better food than you'd expect. Worth the walk if you're already in the area, but don't detour specially from elsewhere.
