CWGC Cross of Sacrifice

The Cross of Sacrifice stands in the Highland landscape near Inverness as a solemn reminder of the Great War's toll. It's a Commonwealth War Graves Commission site, and visiting involves paying respects at this stone monument where the names of the fallen are recorded. The cross itself is a striking geometric structure - simple, austere, unadorned. Walkers and history-minded visitors will spend 20 minutes here, perhaps longer if they're searching for a particular name. Families with older children might find it educational, though younger ones won't get much from it.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Newmore Highland Pods is closest at less than two miles away, or Bunchrew Caravan Park if you prefer traditional caravanning - it makes sense to include this as part of a wider Inverness area day. The town itself has plenty to offer, and the Loch Ness attractions aren't far. But come here for the right reasons: to pay your respects, not to tick off a tourist box.
