Cytiau'r Gwyddelod Hut Circles

Stone circles marking ancient doorways dot this windswept hillside above Holyhead, remnants of Iron Age settlements that once housed Celtic families two millennia ago. The hut circles at Cytiau'r Gwyddelod - literally 'huts of the Irish' in Welsh - are surprisingly well-preserved, with some walls still standing waist-high despite centuries of Anglesey weather.

Reaching the site requires a decent walk across rough moorland - not one for pushchairs or anyone struggling with mobility. Allow at least two hours for the round trip from the nearest parking, longer if you want to properly explore and soak up the views towards Ireland.
