Deodara Wood

Deodara Wood sits just east of Hunstanton, a proper Norfolk woodland that feels like proper breathing space after a few days of seaside caravan life. The cedars - deodar cedars, which give the place its name - tower overhead with that distinctive weeping branch habit, creating a cathedral-like feel without any of the tourist crowds. You're looking at a straightforward woodland walk here, the sort where you can actually hear birdsong instead of ice cream vans.

It's best for anyone who needs to burn off energy between beach visits or wants somewhere quiet for a morning stroll. Kids will enjoy it for maybe an hour, families longer if you're the type to stop and look at things. The woodland paths are manageable, though nothing here is formally maintained in the way some country estates are - this is working forestry, not manicured parkland.

Go in spring or early summer when the light filters through the canopy properly. Autumn works too, though Norfolk woods can get muddy. You won't need more than ninety minutes here unless you're really taking your time, which means it slots perfectly into a holiday park day - pop over from Searles Leisure Resort or one of the Parkdean sites nearby, get your legs stretched, grab a coffee in Hunstanton afterwards.

There's no visitor centre or admission charges that I'm aware of - it's just woodland you can walk into. Practical, unpretentious, and genuinely useful when you need half a day sorted without driving far.
