What you actually get is something far more hands-on and genuinely engaging, especially if you've got kids in tow. The fossil collection here is serious stuff, pulled from the Jurassic Coast cliffs that dominate this stretch of Dorset, and the museum doesn't just display them behind velvet ropes - you can get close, understand how they formed, see the actual rock strata they came from.

Families absolutely thrive here. There's enough interactive content to hold children's attention for a couple of hours without feeling forced, and the geological story of the Dorset coastline makes proper sense once you've seen the fossils in context. If you're the type who reads every placard, allow three hours. Quick visit with restless kids? Ninety minutes covers it.

The location near Bridport is excellent if you're based at Seadown Holiday Park or Newlands Holiday Park - both within easy striking distance. It pairs well with a clifftop walk along the Jurassic Coast itself; the museum contextualises what you're seeing in the actual landscape. Golden Cap Holiday Park and The Dorset Hideaway are further out but still reasonable day-trip territory.
