Dunseverick Falls

The water here drops about 12 metres into a rocky pool - a proper little cascade tucked into the cliffs rather than some dramatic plunge. You'll find it near the ruins of Dunseverick Castle, just east of Ballymoney on the Causeway Coast, and it's the sort of spot that rewards a bit of scrambling about on foot rather than a quick car-park snap.

What makes it worthwhile is the setting. The falls aren't massive, but they're genuine, and the surrounding landscape - dark basalt cliffs, rough grassland, the sense of being on the edge of something - gives it character. You can walk down to the pool itself, though the path gets muddy and steep in places. On a wet day it's slippery enough to warrant proper footwear.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate the ruined castle nearby - medieval, windswept, the kind of place Vikings actually raided. It adds context rather than spectacle.

Allow about 45 minutes to an hour if you're pairing it with the castle. It's free to visit and accessible year-round, though winter means the path is treacherous. This isn't a destination in itself - it's the sort of detour that makes sense if you're already exploring the Causeway Coast.
