Dutchman's Cave

Scrambling through brambles and following barely-there paths leads you to one of North Wales' lesser-known caves, tucked into the limestone cliffs near Conwy. Dutchman's Cave isn't signposted or sanitised for tourists - you'll need to work for this one.

The entrance sits about halfway up a rocky outcrop, requiring a bit of careful climbing to reach. Once inside, the cave extends back into darkness, though you won't need proper caving kit for the main chamber. It's not enormous, but there's something properly atmospheric about standing in this natural hollow carved from the rock.

Walkers and adventurous families will get the most from this spot, though small children might struggle with the approach. The scramble up takes about 10 minutes of careful footwork - nothing too technical, but you'll want decent shoes and a torch.

This works well as a side quest if you're staying at one of the holiday parks around Llandudno. Hafan y Gogarth Luxury Glamping sits just a mile away, making it an easy afternoon expedition. The cave pairs nicely with exploring Conwy's more famous castle and town walls - a bit of wild adventure to balance the heritage trail. Just don't expect facilities or clear directions.
