Dynamic Rock

If you've never tried indoor rock climbing before, Dynamic Rock in Swansea is a proper introduction without the pretension. It's an actual climbing wall venue - the kind of place where you arrive thinking you'll give it ten minutes and end up staying twice as long as planned because your arms have given up.

The setup is straightforward: walls of varying difficulty, from beginner routes that feel manageable to overhanging sections that will humble you. You don't need experience. Staff show you the ropes (literally) and let you get on with it. Most people spend between one and three hours here depending on fitness and how stubborn they are about reaching the top.

It works brilliantly for families with kids old enough to follow safety instructions - probably around age six upwards - and for groups of mates looking for something a bit different. Solo climbers come regularly too. Climbers will obviously get the most from it, but it's also a decent rainy-day activity when the weather in Swansea turns, which it will.

Check the website for current session times and prices before heading over. It's about a mile and a half from Riverside Holiday Park if you're based there, so easily reachable for a morning or afternoon out. Worth booking ahead during school holidays when the place gets busy.

The facilities are functional rather than fancy, but that's not really the point.
