Earby Waterfalls Park

The walk down to Earby Waterfalls takes you through proper Lancashire countryside - moorland edges and stone walls, the kind of landscape that feels like it's been here for centuries. The falls themselves aren't dramatic torrents, but there's something satisfying about them anyway. Water drops over rocky tiers into a natural pool, and on the right day the light catches the spray just right.

It's a short, accessible walk from Barnoldswick - maybe twenty minutes each way depending on your pace. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though the path gets a bit boggy after rain and there are tree roots to mind. Photographers do well here, especially in autumn when the moorland turns bronze. History buffs won't find much to grab onto, but walkers after a genuine break from the car will appreciate the simplicity of it.

The area works as a morning slot before heading to one of the nearby holiday parks - Deerstone Glamping is barely half a mile away, so you could easily slip out for an hour and be back for lunch. Thornton Hall Country Park and Shay Gate Farm are similarly close if you're base camping. Free to access, no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, just park somewhere sensible and head in.

Best visited when the moorland hasn't been absolutely battered by rain - the moorland path drains poorly. Spring and early summer are lovely. Worth doing if you're in the area, but don't bend your whole trip around it.
