East Park

The walk around East Park starts properly in Beverley, where you head east out of town towards what feels like countryside within minutes. It's a working nature reserve rather than a manicured park - think reed beds, open water, and scrubland that actually does something for wildlife rather than just looking nice.

You'll see lapwings, redshanks, and if you're lucky, marsh harriers working the wetland. There are observation points dotted about, which beats trying to photograph birds while tramping through mud. The paths are reasonable - not scrambling terrain, but you need proper shoes. Allow a couple of hours to do it properly without rushing.

This works best for walkers and birders rather than small children who expect amusement. You won't see dramatic views or historic buildings. What you get instead is actual habitat - the kind of place that matters ecologically and rewards patience with sightings.

It's free, which helps. If you're camping at Manor Farm or Spring Valley just down the road, this slots in nicely as a morning activity before heading to Burton Constable Holiday Park's arboretum for something with more visual drama. East Park doesn't try to be everything. It does what it does - bog standard nature reserve work - and does it well enough to make the trip worthwhile if you genuinely care about seeing birds and plants rather than ticking an Instagram box.
