Easty Wood

The woodland paths through Easty Wood offer a proper escape if you're based around Sudbury. It's not vast - you can work through the main trails in under two hours - but it's the sort of place where you actually notice things. Mature trees, dappled light, the occasional clearing where you can actually see sky.

Walkers will find the most reward here. The paths are reasonably maintained but can get muddy after rain, so decent boots are worth the effort. It's flat enough that families with young kids won't struggle, though the novelty tends to wear off after an hour or so unless they're proper nature enthusiasts. If you're staying at Cranfield Retreat or Lake View Lodges - both just over three miles away - it makes a solid morning walk before heading back for lunch.

The wood itself is fairly quiet, which is either a bonus or a drawback depending on what you're after. You won't find dramatic vistas or rare wildlife spotting opportunities; this is gentle woodland rambling rather than adventure. Real value comes from unplugging for a bit and letting your mind wander among the trees.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so bring water and check the ground conditions beforehand. Entry appears to be free, though parking may be limited depending on where you access it from. Worth working into a broader walking day around Sudbury rather than treating as a standalone destination, but the sort of place you'll return to if you're in the area regularly.
