Eaton Golf Club (Waverton)

Eaton Golf Club sits just outside Chester in Waverton, a proper 18-hole course that's been around since 1910. It's the kind of place where you need to be a member or get invited by one - not a public pay-and-play setup. The course itself winds through pleasant Cheshire countryside, nothing dramatically mountainous but genuinely pleasant to walk, with enough water hazards and bunkers to keep you honest.

This is squarely for golfers, obviously. If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Netherwood Touring Site is barely a mile away, Birch Bank Farm even closer - and you've got club membership or know someone who does, it's worth checking if you can arrange a round. The layout plays to decent length and the condition tends to be well maintained.

Non-golfers won't find much here, to be frank. There's no café or public facilities to speak of, and the clubhouse is for members only. If your caravan holiday includes keen golfers, ring ahead on their website to sort out whether you can get on. For everyone else, Chester itself is close enough for a proper day out - the city walls, the shops, the River Dee walks. Eaton's more of an add-on than a destination in itself, unless golf is genuinely your thing.
