Eldon Hill

Standing at 171 metres above sea level, this modest hill just north of Bridport offers surprisingly good views across the Bride Valley without requiring a proper mountain expedition. The walk up takes about 20 minutes from the nearest parking spot, following well-marked footpaths through farmland that can get a bit muddy after rain. Worth bringing wellies if it's been wet.

From the summit, you'll get a decent panorama of the Dorset countryside rolling down towards the coast, with West Bay visible on a clear day. It's not spectacular enough to warrant a special trip, but makes for a pleasant morning walk if you're staying nearby. Families with older children will manage it fine - the paths aren't particularly steep, though younger ones might find it dull.

Being open countryside, there's no admission charge and you can walk it any time of day. The hill works well as part of a longer coastal walk or as a quick leg-stretcher if you're based at one of the holiday parks around Bridport. Freshwater Beach Holiday Park and West Bay Holiday Park are both within easy reach, making this a handy option for families wanting a bit of exercise between beach days.
