Elephant Cave

Scrambling up the coastal path east of Conwy, you'll spot a dark opening in the limestone cliffs that locals call Elephant Cave. The name supposedly comes from the profile of the rock formation when viewed from the water - though honestly, you need a fair bit of imagination to see the resemblance.

This isn't a show cave with guided tours and spotlights. It's a proper wild cave that requires a torch and decent boots to explore safely. The main chamber extends back about 30 metres into the cliff face, with some smaller passages branching off. Adventure-seeking families with older kids will love the exploring aspect, though it's definitely not suitable for pushchairs or anyone with mobility issues.

What makes the visit worthwhile is the combination of cave exploration and the cracking coastal views from the approach path. Allow a good hour for the walk from Conwy and cave exploration combined. The path can get slippery when wet, so pick your day carefully.
