Head out from York towards the countryside and you'll find Farmer Ed's, a proper working farm that opens its gates to visitors who fancy getting their hands dirty. This is the real deal - not some theme park version of farming, but actual animals, actual fields, and actual farm work happening around you.

In spring there are lambs and calves being born, summer means helping with hay making if you're up for it, and throughout the year you can see how a functioning Yorkshire farm actually operates. Adults often surprise themselves by how engaging it is too.

The proximity to Flaxton Meadows Campsite and Fox Hill Holiday Park makes it ideal if you're camping nearby - both are less than three miles away and highly rated.
