You're looking at proper fishing waters here - carp, pike, roach, and bream if you know what you're doing. The stretch near Newark town centre is accessible enough, though you'll want to check the current access situation before you head out, as these things change seasonally.

This is absolutely for the fishing crowd. If you're not keen on a rod and line, you'll get bored within ten minutes. But if angling's your thing, the Trent's got character - wide, slow-moving, lined with overhanging trees in places. Early morning or dusk is when you'll see the most activity, both from fish and fellow anglers.

The beauty of basing yourself at one of the nearby parks - Lakeside Touring Caravan Park is less than a mile away, which is convenient - is that you can fish at dawn, pack up, and still have the day for the family. Sundown Adventureland's five miles off if the kids need entertaining between sessions. Trentfield Farm and Wild Acre Village are also within reasonable reach if you want lodging options.

Free to fish, mostly, though you'll need a rod licence and possibly permission depending on the stretch. Allow a full day if you're serious about it. Go in spring or autumn for the best conditions.
