Footpath Copse

A modest woodland walk on the outskirts of Minehead that delivers proper forest atmosphere without the crowds you'd find at bigger tourist spots. The paths wind through mixed woodland - nothing dramatically rare, but genuine enough to make you feel like you've left town behind. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear birdsong rather than car engines.

Walkers will appreciate it most. The terrain is gentle enough for families with young kids, though it's not a destination in itself - more of a half-hour detour while you're in the area. If your children expect dramatic views or adventure playgrounds, they'll be bored within twenty minutes. But if they're the type who like poking about in trees and spotting wildlife, it's worthwhile.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of, so bring what you need. Go early morning or late afternoon to avoid the few other people who use it. Spring is best when the woodland floor comes alive with bluebells.

Fitting it into a Minehead holiday works well. The Minehead Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is only about four miles away, as is Butlins if you're staying there. You could easily combine this with a beach walk in town - it's genuinely close enough to slot in between other activities without eating half your day. Not essential, but if the weather's decent and you're based nearby, it's worth the leg-stretch.
