Fort Apache

Concrete bunkers and rusted metal fencing mark what locals call Fort Apache, a Cold War relic sitting in the Nottinghamshire countryside near Retford. This former RAF radar station might not look like much from the road, but it's a proper slice of military history that most people drive past without a second glance.

Urban explorers and military history enthusiasts will find plenty to poke around, though access can be tricky - the site's ownership status seems to change hands fairly regularly. The main radar tower still dominates the skyline, and you can make out the old accommodation blocks and operations buildings scattered across the compound.
