Four Acre Grove

Four Acre Grove sits just outside Chepstow, a proper woodland walk that feels worlds away from the tourist trail even though it's practically on the doorstep of town. It's what it says on the tin - a compact forest patch where you can lose an hour or two among the trees without needing an OS map or specialist kit.

The walk itself is straightforward. You're moving through mixed woodland, decent paths underfoot, nothing that'll test your legs too hard. It's the sort of place that works brilliantly if you've got restless kids who need burning out but don't fancy a full-day mountain expedition. Dogs love it here too. In spring the floor comes alive with bluebells, which is when you'll want to time your visit if you're after photos that don't look like everyone else's.

There's a quiet, almost meditative quality to walking here - no crowds, no gift shops, just trees and birdsong. Realistically, you're looking at an hour to ninety minutes max depending on how slowly you wander. It's close enough to Chepstow town centre that you could easily combine it with lunch or a brewery visit, and if you're staying at Penhein Glamping nearby, it makes for a lovely morning stroll before heading back for coffee.

Worth the detour? Only if you're after a proper breather. If you're hunting for dramatic views or riverside drama, you'd be better served exploring the Wye Valley proper. But as a gentle woodland interlude between bigger attractions, it does the job.
