Fowey Church

The church sits right at the heart of Fowey's steep tumble down to the river, all narrow streets and granite. St Fimbarrus Church - that's the full name, though locals just call it Fowey Church - is a proper medieval affair, all soaring windows and weathered stone that's been taking the salt spray and rain for about five hundred years. You'll walk past it coming down from the village, and it's worth ducking inside for twenty minutes. The interior's got some lovely carved benches and decent stained glass if you're into that sort of thing, though it won't keep you occupied for hours.

It's free to visit, which is always a good start. The setting's the real draw though - standing in the churchyard, you can see right down to the harbour and across towards Polruan on the opposite bank. On a clear day it's genuinely lovely. The church itself appeals mostly to those with a taste for medieval architecture or anyone wanting a bit of quiet reflection - families with young kids might find it a touch dull after the first five minutes.

If you're camping at Tremeer Farm just over two miles away, or staying at Par Sands or East Crinnis Holiday Park nearby, Fowey Church makes an easy add-on to an afternoon wandering the village. Don't plan a special trip just for it, but if you're already exploring Fowey's waterfront and steep cobbled lanes, stepping inside costs nothing and takes barely any time. It's the kind of spot that rounds out a coastal day rather than anchoring it.
