Friars Hill

The walk up Friars Hill is straightforward enough - a steady climb from the Botswicky Copse area that rewards you with proper views across the Gloucestershire landscape. Nothing dramatically alpine, but on a clear day you can see a fair distance, and there's something satisfying about reaching the summit and feeling like you've actually earned your vantage point.

It's the kind of peak that works well for families who aren't after a gruelling hike. Kids won't lose interest halfway up, and the whole thing is manageable without needing specialist kit or hours of daylight. Walkers heading through the region will find it a decent detour if you're staying at any of the nearby parks - Faringdon Grange or Great Farm are close enough that you could add it to a longer route without overextending yourself.

The main draw is straightforward: you get up there, you take in the view, maybe sit down for a bit. Don't come expecting dramatic features or a summit café, but do come if you want a proper walk that doesn't demand full mountaineering credentials. Spring and early autumn work well - you'll avoid the worst of the rain and still have decent daylight hours to play with.
