Furzy Breach

Deep in the Oxfordshire countryside near Witney, Furzy Breach is a proper woodland walk rather than a manicured tourist spot. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think - ancient trees, open bracken, and trails that feel genuinely wild rather than manufactured.

The forest sits well for families who don't mind a bit of mud. Kids tend to enjoy the space to roam and the sense of discovery, though it's not the sort of place with ice cream vans or play equipment. It's more about letting them loose on the woodland paths and seeing what they find. Walkers get real value here - the terrain varies enough to keep things interesting without being punishing.

This isn't a destination you'd drive an hour for specifically. But if you're staying at Grove Farm Glamping Pods or exploring the broader Witney area, it's absolutely worth a detour. The circuit takes a couple of hours at a leisurely pace, less if you're moving faster. Admission appears to be free, though facilities are minimal - bring water and expect no cafés or visitor centres.

Go when the weather's reasonable. Post-rain it's boggy in patches, but that's part of the charm really. The bracken is particularly good in autumn, and the canopy makes it decent in summer heat. It won't Instagram you to death, but it will clear your head properly.
