The view from George V Jubilee, just outside Redhill, stretches across the Surrey Hills in a way that makes you understand why people fought so hard to preserve this landscape. It's the kind of spot locals know and visitors miss - a proper vantage point rather than a manicured tourist trap.

You get a sweeping panorama across the Weald from here, with the North Downs rolling away to the south and plenty of woodland in between. On a clear day it's genuinely worth stopping for, though the reality is you won't spend more than fifteen or twenty minutes taking it in. There's no cafe, no visitor centre, no gift shop - just the view and whatever weather Surrey throws at you.

Walkers get the most from this spot. It sits nicely on longer rambles through the Surrey Hills, and from here you can push on toward Betchworth or loop back toward Redhill without backtracking. Families with young children might find it a bit underwhelming if they're expecting something more interactive, though older kids who actually enjoy scenery will appreciate the scale of it.

Free to visit, naturally, and you can turn up whenever you fancy. Early morning in summer is when the light's best; avoid midday glare if you've got a decent camera. If you're based at Surrey Hills Park or Merrywood Park nearby, this makes a sensible morning detour before heading elsewhere in the region. Alderstead Heath is closer still if you're after a quick leg-stretch with a payoff.
