Glamis Meadow and Wood

A modest stretch of grassland and woodland just outside Northampton, Glamis Meadow and Wood won't stop you in your tracks, but it's the sort of place that rewards a proper wander if you're already in the area. You get open meadow that feels properly separated from the town despite being close by, with woodland edges that offer shade and shelter depending on the season.

This is walkers' territory rather than a destination in itself. The paths are straightforward enough, and there's genuine quiet here - rare for somewhere this accessible to an urban centre. Families with younger kids might manage twenty minutes before boredom sets in; serious ramblers could easily spend a couple of hours if the mood takes. Spring brings wildflowers, though it's pleasant enough year-round if you don't mind mud.

It costs nothing to access, which is always welcome. There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of, so bring water and wear proper footwear. The meadow sits close enough to Grendon Lakes holiday park - about four miles away - to make a decent half-day option if you're staying in the area. Combine it with a trip into Northampton itself and you've got a solid morning without going far.

Worth a visit if you're based locally or passing through? Absolutely. Worth planning a day around? Probably not. But it does what it does without fuss.
