Glenarm Walled Garden

The walled garden at Glenarm sits behind proper stone walls that have been doing their job since the 1700s. It's a working space, not a manicured showpiece - you'll find fruit trees, vegetable beds, and enough greenery to make you forget you're only a few miles from Ballymena. The walls themselves are worth the visit alone; they trap heat and create their own microclimate, which is why things grow here that shouldn't really grow this far north.

Walkers and gardeners will spend a solid hour poking about. There's something satisfying about exploring a space that's been tended continuously for three centuries without getting turned into a theme park. The walls keep it intimate, and you genuinely feel like you've stepped away rather than just wandered thirty metres off the main road.

It's free to visit, though hours can be a bit variable depending on the season and what's happening at the estate. Worth ringing ahead if you're planning a specific trip. The nearby Ocean View Pods gives you somewhere proper to rest your head if you're making a longer weekend of it - that's luxury glamping rather than standard park accommodation.

Bring decent footwear. The ground gets soft after rain, and you'll want to actually walk around rather than stick to gravel paths. In spring and summer it's unmissable; autumn's lovely too. Winter's a bit bleak unless you're into bare branches and structural walls.
