Glenfinart Walled Garden

The walled garden at Glenfinart sits just outside Dunoon, a proper slice of Victorian horticulture that rewards a quiet morning. You're walking into four acres surrounded by stone walls built to trap warmth - grow exotic things Scottish weather would normally throttle. The bones of the place are excellent: herbaceous borders, woodland paths, a working kitchen garden that looks like it actually produces vegetables rather than just existing for Instagram.

It's a place for people who like plants more than spectacle. Garden enthusiasts will spend a solid couple of hours poking about; families with small children might find it a bit underdramatic - there's no playground, no maze, just greenery and a gentle slope. The Victorian engineering is genuinely interesting if you're into that sort of thing: how they managed microclimates before central heating.

If you're staying at Glenfinart Caravan Park itself, you're basically on the doorstep - less than ten minutes from your pitch. Even from Loch Eck or Stratheck a few miles south, it's an easy morning detour between Dunoon's seafront and a walk up Benmore Mountain. Go in late spring or early summer when something's actually flowering. Winter's a bit bleak unless you're really committed to winter gardens.

Worth a visit if you're stopping in Argyll anyway, but don't reroute your entire holiday for it. The surrounding countryside is where the real draw sits.
