Goose Slade Point

A windswept headland west of Penzance where the cliffs drop away proper dramatic and the Atlantic sprawls out in front of you like something you'd only expect from a postcard. Goose Slade Point is the sort of place locals walk past without thinking twice, but visitors often miss it entirely - which is their loss.

You're looking at granite outcrops, heather-covered slopes, and if conditions are right, the kind of seabird activity that makes ornithologists actually stop talking. The walk out takes twenty minutes from the coastal path, and on a clear day you can see all the way toward Cape Cornwall. It's not a destination with facilities or facilities or interpretation boards - just raw headland the way it's meant to be.

Historically it matters because this stretch of coast saw plenty of wrecking activity and tin-mining operations inland, though Goose Slade Point itself is more geology than human drama. The rocks tell their own story though if you bother to look properly.

Walkers get the most from this. Not the dawdle-and-have-a-cream-tea crowd - serious footpath types who want something with teeth. Bring a map; bring waterproofs because the weather turns on a sixpence out here. Summer's pleasant but choppy with tourists everywhere. Spring or autumn feels proper wild.
