Gravel Hill doesn't announce itself. You climb up from the outskirts of Fareham and suddenly you're looking across Hampshire - proper flat landscape, nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can see right across the county. It's a modest peak by any measure, more of a pronounced bump than a mountain, but that's precisely why it works.

The walk up takes maybe twenty minutes from the car park if you're taking it steady. It's not strenuous - families with primary school age kids will manage fine without grumbling. The views reward the effort more than the climb itself does. On a grey day, frankly, you might wonder why you've bothered. But catch it right - early morning, good light, air clear - and you'll understand why locals keep coming back.

There's nothing constructed up here, no café or visitor centre. That's either brilliant or disappointing depending on what you're after. If you want a proper walk with actual summit moment, this delivers. If you're hoping for facilities or a destination experience, you'll be let down.

It's the kind of thing you do while the kettle's on at the campsite. Not essential to your holiday. Worth thirty minutes of your time if you're based locally. Don't plan your trip around it.
