Great Orme

Seven hundred feet above Llandudno Bay, this limestone headland delivers the kind of views that make you forget about the slightly wobbly legs from the climb. The Great Orme rises dramatically from the Victorian seaside resort below, and once you're up there, the panorama stretches across Snowdonia to the south and out to Anglesey on clear days.

Walking to the summit takes about 45 minutes if you're reasonably fit, though families with young children might want to consider the Victorian tramway that chugs up from Llandudno's Victoria Station. The path can be steep in places, but it's well-maintained and perfectly doable for most people.

Up top, you'll find the remains of an Iron Age hillfort and a 14th-century church dedicated to St Tudno. The real draw, though, is simply standing on the edge and taking in that sweeping coastal view. On a proper clear day, you can see right across to the Lake District.

Families staying at nearby parks like Hafan y Gogarth or Aberconwy Resort will find this makes a cracking half-day out, especially combined with a wander around Llandudno afterwards. The summit can get busy in summer, so early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be more peaceful. Kids who like scrambling over rocks will love exploring the rocky outcrops, though keep a close eye on them near the cliff edges.
