Green Hill

The walk up to Green Hill from Farnham is one of those Surrey outings that rewards you without demanding much. It's not a slog - more a steady climb through woodland that opens onto decent views across the Weald once you crest the top. The whole thing takes about an hour, give or take, depending on how many times you stop to catch your breath or photograph the canopy.

This is proper walking country rather than a designated tourist attraction with benches and interpretation boards. You're looking at paths through beech and oak, the kind of terrain that feels genuinely quiet compared to the honeypot spots further south. On a clear day the views justify the effort, though I won't pretend they're jaw-dropping - they're more understated, which is rather the point if you've come to escape the noise.

Families with older kids will get on fine here. Younger ones might find the walk itself more interesting than the destination, so plan accordingly. It's the sort of place you'd fit into a broader day exploring the Farnham area rather than a standalone trip. The nearby Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat is literally half a mile away, making this an obvious pairing for a weekend stay - you could walk from your lodge and be on the hill within 20 minutes. Little Cowdray Farm Glamping at 5.7 miles offers another comfortable base if you want something slightly different. Early morning visits are genuinely worth the effort if you can manage it. The light's better and you'll have the place to yourself.
