Greencombe Gardens

Three acres of woodland garden tucked into a valley near Minehead - and it's genuinely absorbing if you're the sort who gets excited about plants and proper horticulture. Greencombe isn't flashy. There are no Instagram-bait installations or manicured lawns. Instead, you're walking through dense collections of trees, shrubs and rare specimens arranged with the kind of thoughtful intensity that tells you a real plantsperson built this place.

The garden slopes downhill through various sections, each with its own character. Ferns thrive in the damper spots, unusual conifers catch the light, and there's clearly been decades of careful curation at work. It's the sort of place where you spot something every few metres - a new species, an interesting juxtaposition, a clearing with a proper view.

Not for everyone, honestly. If your kids expect playground equipment or manicured pathways, they'll get restless after forty minutes. But if you're a keen gardener, a plant enthusiast, or someone who genuinely enjoys a quiet woodland wander, you'll easily spend two or three hours here picking things apart. The terrain is steep in places, so bring decent walking shoes.

For a holiday at nearby Minehead Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, Greencombe works as a solid half-day outing. Close enough to reach in minutes, far enough removed from seaside crowds. Best visited when the garden isn't peak season - spring growth or autumn colour, rather than the summer tourist rush.
