Gwig Bach Forest

The tiny church at Gwig Bach sits tucked away in the Anglesey countryside near Lligwy, a proper little gem if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted round here. It's a working parish church with genuine medieval bones, though honestly it's the isolation that gets you - you feel like you've stumbled onto something most visitors miss entirely.

Inside, it's intimate rather than grand. Low ceilings, whitewashed walls, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. There's history packed into the stonework if you know how to read it, and the churchyard tells its own stories with older graves weathered half-blank by centuries of Anglesey wind.

The beauty is the location. From Tyn Rhos or Dafarn Rhos caravan parks you're minutes away, making it a proper excuse for a ramble through the lanes. Lligwy itself is close enough for a pint afterwards, and the whole area around Anglesey's north coast has good walking if you fancy stretching your legs further. Free to visit, clearly, and open as churches are - just check locally if you're planning to go inside on a specific day.
