Steam engines, vintage tractors, and the sort of machinery that built post-war Britain - that's what you'll find at Haddenham Steam Rally. It's an annual event rather than a permanent museum, so check before you go, but when it runs, it's genuinely brilliant if you're into mechanical things or just fancy watching something that actually works move across a field under its own power.

The rally draws crowds from across East Anglia, and for good reason. You'll see threshing demonstrations, old lorries puttering about, and the kind of engineering detail that fascinates both eight-year-olds and their grandparents in equal measure. It's the sort of place where someone's uncle will spend three hours talking about a 1952 combine harvester and actually have things worth listening to.

Haddenham sits just outside Cambridge, making it a solid afternoon trip if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - Fen End Farm or Long Island Lake are close enough that you won't spend the entire journey driving. You'll want at least three hours to properly wander round, longer if there's live machinery in action.
