Head out from Hungarton and you'll find Hamilton Park - a proper nature reserve that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than it compensates for the drive. The site itself is modest: open grassland with scattered trees, a few ponds, and the kind of birdsong that makes you actually want to put your phone away.

This is walkers' territory, really. History buffs might find some interest in the parkland itself - the bones of what was once a grander estate - but don't come expecting stately home ruins or formal gardens. You come for the birds and the space. Spring and autumn are your best bets if you're after spotting something worth photographing. Summer's pleasant enough but can feel a bit quiet for wildlife.

You'll want to allow a good hour for a proper wander, longer if you're keen on spotting rare visitors. It's free, which is the only reason to complain about the state of the paths - they're rough in places and muddy after rain, so proper boots are essential.

If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Village Farm Getaway or Cossiwild Camping are closest at under four miles - it makes a decent half-day outing to break up a longer stay. Pair it with a walk around Hungarton itself or push on to somewhere with a bit more going on. It's not a park that'll keep you entertained all day, but for birdwatchers and quiet enthusiasts, it's worth the trip.
